LAKE SANT MAURICI
AND THE ENCANTATS
Lake Sant Maurici and the Encantats is undoubtedly the most emblematic picture in the National Park and one of the most famous and beautiful spots in the Catalan Pyrenees. In summer the rocks in the mountain contrast with the calm waters of the lake. In winter, however, snow covers it all with a white cloak. Any season is good to enjoy this picturesque and breathtaking landscapeL
Portarró d'Espot is the linking point between the two main sectors in the National Park: Espot Valley and Sant Nicolau Valley. This natural mountain pass at 2.428 m is an extraordinary viewpoint of the whole park.
MATA DE VALÈNCIA FOREST
Mata de València Forest is the largest fir tree forest in Spain and one of the few places where you can still hear the song of the capercaillie, an endangered native species. When sunlight rays enter the forest through the high thick branches of fir trees the forest becomes a magical mystical place.
Peguera Valley is a big quiet area where the sound of water is the only thing you can hear. If you follow the river up to the top of the valley, you will encounter a wild nature full of glacial lakes and craggy peaks. Lake Tort and Lake Negre are just some of the most stunning places in the National Park.
Mainera Lakes are a peaceful spot in the Àssua Valley. The deep blue waters in the three glacial lakes contrast with the bright green mountains and pastures around. Mainera Lakes are a very unknown place in the National Park you can't miss if you're a real explorer.
Agulles d'Amitges are probably the most famous spot in the National Park after Lake Sant Maurici and the Encantats. These rocky needles stand out in a lunar landscape where there is almost no vegetation. They are the survivors of ancient times when ice covered it all.
