Pallars SobiràThe 135 villages of the high Pyrenees
Pallars Sobirà is composed by 135 tiny mountain villages that have managed to keep the traditional character and architecture from the Pyrenees. The majority of this stone villages cannot count up to fifty citizens and, in order to provide the most basic and needed services, they are gathered in 15 big municipalities: Alins, Alt Àneu, Baix Pallars, Espot, Esterri d'Àneu, Esterri de Cardós, Farrera, La Guingueta d’Àneu, Lladorre, Llavorsí, Rialp, Soriguera, Sort, Tírvia and Vall de Cardós.
These villages are divided into different valleys which converge into the river Noguera Pallaresa, the region's spine. Each valley has particularities that make it different from the others; the livestock past in Àssua Valley, the Romanesque heritage in Àneu Valley, water usages in Cardós Valley, iron mines in Ferrera valley or the geological formations in Siarb valley.
