Even the county has quite a low demographic rate, and thanks to the promotion from the tourist activities, nowadays there is an excellent cultural offer: museums and ethnologic ecomuseums, nature interpretation centres, cultural dealers, producers of natural and artisan food production... all of these activities may be carried out within a unique environment and landscape.
The Romanesque from El Pallars is highly valued, unfortunately for this reason there are many masterwork pieces scattered all over the world. As people become increasingly aware of its importance, little by little the hermitages have been rebuilt and restored, the frescos painted up on the apses are minutely reproduced, and exact copies of the beautiful carved wooden sculptures are being ordered. Similarly, there are sanctuaries in every neck of the mountainside valleys, although not belonging to the Romanesque, having some reputation among the villagers, who congregate in the sacred palaces once a year in crowded gatherings.
People have inhabited El Pallars Sobirà from many centuries ago, and to prove it there are many archaeological and architectural remains.
All the villages around El Pallars Sobirà -made of stone, wood and slabs -, have their special charm. However, some of them are remarkable for their features about their situation of the pattern of their streets.
El Pallars Sobirà is one of the regions with a bigger number of protected areas: the only National Park in Catalonia is here, a part from the Natural Park of the High Pyrenees, certain parts of the PEIN (Natural Interest Landscape Plan of Catalonia) and the National Hunting Reserve of Boumort. It also has the biggest lake in the Pyrenees, Certescan, and the highest peak of the princedom: the Pica d'Estats.
