Pallars Sobirà, a natural paradise
High mountains, glacial lakes, luxuriant nature, untouched wildlife, villages that have been stuck in time… Authenticity and quietness are the most representative attributes of Pallars Sobirà, one of the largest regions in Catalonia, but one of the most deserted ones, too …
The scarce population of the region has allowed nature to remain nearly untouched. A reason why the main part of the territory has been protected: Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, Alt Pirineu Natural Park, Boumort Natural Game Reserve, Noguera Pallaresa-Collegats Partial Natural Reserve, and many other valuable sites that turn Pallars Sobirà into a real natural paradise.
Pallars Sobirà represents all the valleys of the Alt Pirineu area: Àneu Valley, Cardós Valley, Ferrera Valley, Àssua Valley, Siarb Valley … Although each valley has got its own character, the river Noguera Pallaresa, which crosses the region from north to south, links them all through its rapids that flow downstream until the high rock walls of Collegats Canyon, the southern boundary of the region.
