The festival of fire
Listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, Les Falles is an ancestral festival celebrated on the summer solstice. A huge tree trunk of about 15 meters is placed in the middle of a bonfire in the main square in the village. At dusk the people of the village walk from the top of a mountain all the way to the village bearing a burning log on their shoulders.
The journey from the top of the mountain to the village turns into a slow snake of fire crawling down the mountain. When the fallaires (people bearing the burning logs) get the bonfire in the square, they leave their logs in the bonfire and they dance to traditional music all around it.
